With a market already dominated by Apple,  Everyone is jumping on the bandwagon.  Let’s try and make sense of some of these.

Hardware

With 5 inch, 7 inch and 10 inch form factors your choice depends on what you want to do with the tablet.  Obviously the 5 inch screen is a glorified smart phone.  7 inch seems to be popular in pricing (under $200) i.e Kindle Fire.  The 10 inch screen is the standard for people looking to replace the laptop and you can do some serious work.  Screen size is also dependent on the OS, but we’ll get to that later.  Aside from screen size there’s options.  Cameras, both front and back for face time.  I know this isn’t a phone but with Skype and Wifi it is.   Memory, from 256 Meg RAM (yeah I saw that on a Sylvania tablet yesterday), 36 GigRAM.  Memory Expansion with SD cards.  Be careful MicroSD is Popular.   CPUs, processing power is important and there are many processors out there this can affect applications, now they have multiple cores. 

With Apples new iPad release and Google’s announcement that Asus will build it’s Nexus tablet (priced between $150 and $199.  It’s clear the low end market price market is hot right now.  Expect to see more low priced units on the market.  The unit pictured above is one of many clones on Amazon.com.  One thing to look out for is counterfeit units.  Shoddy craftsmanship and out and out misrepresentation concerning battery life and size is a problem.  If you buy through Amazon they will offer you your money back.   Ebay, on the other hand, you buy the product as-is.  Just be careful.
