Applications are something new. Microsoft now has an online app store, so the apps come to you.
Microsoft has said all these app will inter-communicate with one another also.
With Internet Explorer 10 you now also have a touchscreen browser.
Compatibility
On x86 and x64 PCs, Windows 8 supports Windows 7 desktop application and devices so you don’t have to compromise or give
up what you are used to. On these PC’s your existing windwos 7 based applications just work.
Multiscreen support is standard. with different backgrounds on each.
It appears Microsoft my have a winner here. With all the different platforms coming especially tablets. I’ll update as more information is released.
Microsoft just released abeta version if you want to play with it.
