Audio Technica ATH M50X Headphones are an excellent choice when looking for professional studio audio quality, or just for your entertainment.
Audio Technica’s ATH-M50 has proved itself to be one of the best bargains of a headphone on the market as far as quality and price goes. The ATH-M50X is an evolution of this design, incorporating some new features but with the same if not improved sound quality that gave the ATH-M50 its reputation.
These headphones feature a very sturdy plastic body, with the headband being metal and a lot of soft padding on the headband and around the ears. Despite some plastic construction, I have never heard any sort of creak while wearing them. These are very comfortable as far as over the ear headphones go, the pads are large enough where they cover your ears without pressing against them, making full use of the 45mm drivers. Each earcup swivels and folds so you can store it in the provided bag.
The specific color I got of the Audio-Technica ATH-M50xBL Professional Studio Monitor Headphones was the limited edition blue, with a dark, almost black, navy blue color and the padding a caramel sort of color. I’m quite impressed with how they look and feel, and these headphones are offered in a couple other color combinations. Aside from the colors they all are the same headphone. Also included is three detachable cords, a 1.2-3.0m coiled cable, a 1.2m straight cable, and a 3.0m straight cable.
Audio quality with these headphones is superb. They offer a full flat frequency response, and that is definitely a good thing with these headphones. I listen to a lot of bass heavy music and the bass response is definitely heavy and pronounced with very good impact, but unlike a lot of other headphones the bass doesn’t overly drown out everything else. Highs are nice and crisp, and there’s enough space and separation where you can pick things out over different frequencies.
The one gripe for mobile usage is that there is no remote sold with the headphones, however there are some companies selling some replacement cables with an inline remote+mic built in. Overall, these are definitely some of the best headphones you can get in under the $200 range, and even better than a lot that are over that price. These can be worn everyday by both the average listener and audiophile, and can be worn on the go, at home or in the studio. Have you tried this ATH-M50X yet?
