Looking for a Free Professional-Quality Office Suite? Try LibreOffice 4.35

LibreOffice is a free software for desktop productivity. Community oriented and available in many languages. LibreOffice was created in 2010 when some of the Open Office programmers split from Oracle to develop LibreOffice.  This was done because developers at OpenOffice were worried about what Oracle, which had acquired Sun Microsystems, the original developers of OpenOffice.org, were going to do with the code base. Development has since been transfered to the Apache Software Foundation. LibreOffice is often considered to be more actively developed than…

OpenOffice.

It offers six programs that you will find instantly familiar if you have used Office in the past. There’s Writer for word documents, PDF Import,  Calc for spreadsheets and Impress is a presentation program similar to PowerPoint. There are also drawing, database and equation programs.

On top of its eight featured programs, there are plenty of extensions and templates you can add to expand the program’s functionality.

LibreOffice is also compatible with the most popular document formats, including Office documents.
Much of the community which developed and supported OpenOffice has recently switched to LibreOffice. As a result, LibreOffice is constantly being developed, updated, fixed, and patched. Most recently, LibreOffice has released LibreOffice 4.35  whereas OpenOffice which is controled by the Apache Software Foundation is up to release 4.1.1.
