TRENDnet TEW WiFi Access Point Repeater & Best Solution For My Wireless Printer  Connection.

A while back I wrote an article about extending your WiFi range with another old wireless  router (thus creating a subnet).

Well you can imagine my surprise when a recent lightning storm shorted pins 1 and 2 in my cable.   ( A cable checker comes in handy).  I went out and bought theTRENDnet TEW-736RE Range Extender (sale price $20-$36).  This device had one ethernet 10/100Mbps port and two antenas 802.11N 300Mbps.

Setup was a piece of cake by pluging it into my ethernet port and addressing its’ IP address.

I set the 1 ethernet port to my network range via Static IP set the password  saved and restarted the range extender.   Every thing woked great.  Then I realized that I had my color laser printer pluged into my old router, so I plugged it into my range extender and tried to run HP Jet direct setup.  Didn’t work.   I was running windows 8. I told control panel to find my printer.   It did and all is fine.  I removed the defective cable and tossed it.  We are done here. (Take note that some brands of wireless network repeaters are compatible only with their own brands of Routers & Range Extenders)

Oh, one note.   I just upgraded my internet service to 30MB.  When wired I got 30MBps.  Now using wireless every machine that’s wireless on my network cuts my speed in half.  I’m going to have to look into this.

Enjoy your wireless access point!
